In the article, the author indicates three possible possibilities of how Agnostids live in the ancient, which were refuted by the professor in the lecture that all those hypothesis have their own weakness.
Firstly, the author suggests that the Agnostids could be a kind of predator. However, the professor indicates that the predator commonly has developed eyes because vision is important for predators to catch the prey. But the Agnostids only had undeveloped eyes, which was nearly blind. Additionally, despite the eyes, as the predator, the Agnostids should have other sensitive organs to help them catch the food, yet those organs were not found in the Agnostids' fossil remains. As the result, the possibility of Agnostids to be a predator is low.
Secondly, the author mentions that the Agnostids could be a seafloor dweller. In contrast, the professor says that the seafloor dwellers usually do not have ability to move fast and thus they tend to stay in the same area. Consequently, their fossils are always found in a small geological area. The Agnostids' fossil records, however, were found in multiple places across large scales, indicating that the Agnostids could have ability to move fast, and this ability is highly unusual in sea dwellers. Therefore the Agnostids could not be the seafloor dweller.
Finally, the author argues that the Agnostids could be a parasite. Nevertheless, the professor refutes that the parasites could not enjoy high population since too many individuals would kill the host. So we can tell that the Agnostids is not a kind of parasite since vast number of fossil remains of Agnostids were found.
