Firstly, the reading passage believes that the Norse settlements in the north of America and in Canada were too far from the state of Maine. Therefore, there was no real connection between these settlements. However, the professor refutes this point. She states that native American traveled long distances and they collected important materials from everywhere they traveled. Hence, maybe they traveled to the Norse settlements and brought back the coin to the Maine state.
Secondly, the reading material states that there was no existence of coin in other Norse settlements such as Canada. This point is rejected by the lecturer. She says that the Norse people used to pack their important things. Maybe, they packed their coins in order to bring back them to Europe one day.
Finally, the reading passage claims that silver coins were useless for the Norse people in North America; because native American settlements did not consider the silver coin as money. This point is challenged by the lecturer. She argues that Although native American people did not consider the coin as money the Norse settlements used it as other important materials such as jewelry. Hence, they traded coins as an important commercial material to North America.
