Apparently there have been some historical debates about whether pterosaurs were capable to fly. The professor tries to convince her class that pterosaurs were actually able to fly, despite of what they read from the article.
First is the issue of pterosaurs energy. The lecture explains that pterosaurs `fossil have dense hair cover that usually presents in warm-blooded animals. This hair cover helps them maintain their body temperature in cold environment. Because of this pterosaurs can provide enough energy to fly.
Second is the issue of heavy body. The professor puts forth the idea that eventhough pterosaurs have a large body compartment, they are not heavy. She says that their bones are not solid which makes them light enough to fly. The author`s interpretation of this is not shared by many scholars in the field.
Finally is the issue of back leg muscles. The professor addresses the body structure of pterosaurs. She states that unlike birds who use only 2 legs to walk, pterosaurs use their four legs to walk on the ground. Because of this the professor refuse to accept the author`s claim that the back muscles of pterosaurs are not strong enough to provide them with the necessary force to jump up high in the air.
Basically, the professor illuminates the ongoing scholarly debate about the capability of pterosaurs to fly.
