The lecture particularly deals with its objections against the theories given in the passage for long distance migration of humpback whales. According to the passage, there are three possible theories how whales migrate by navigating with the help of stars. While the lecture completely disagrees with them placing forth its possible reasons.
First, the lecture ascribes the fact that there is no real connection between the intelligence and use of stars for navigation. For an instance, although ducks are average intelligent, they even migrate using stars. Therefore, it does not show any connection of intelligence and stars as they work with instinct they are born with. This rejects the first theory of the passage.
Second, most of the animals are seem to sense external force while migration. In the same way, humpback whales also possess biomagnetite because of which they are sensitive to earth magnetic field. Thus, they travel the straight line or whatever due to the magnetic field rather than stars. This rejects the second theory of the passage.
Third, floating straight up inorder to see the stars for navigation is not convincing theory. Spy hopping is usually done by sharks for hunting rather than migration. They look sky in the day when there is no star. So, it is just a pure speculation for whales to migrate by navigating by the help of stars. This rejects the third theory of the passage.
