The article and the lecture both discuss how humpback whales navigate long distances in the oceans. The reading claims that they navigate with the assistance of stars. The lecturer, however, refutes the author's assessment and contends that it navigates through other means
The first allegation of the script against which the orator argues is the complexity of the brain which assists humpback whale to navigate. The lecturer refuted this point by stating that other non-intelligent animals can also navigate with the stars assistance. Thus, intelligence may not necessarily be related to navigation.
Secondly, The lecturer does not agree with with the points made by the author that humpback whales move in straight line because of stars. He contends that instead humpback whales move in straight line because of magnetite, a sensory organ in the brain, which functions to direct whales in straight line with the assistance of magnetic field. Ultimately, whale are able to move in such an organized way.
Finally, the lecturer contradicts the fallacy of the passage that whales spy-hop to navigate with stars assistance. He contends that sharks do the same movement, however, not for navigating the ocean, but to search for food.Besides, whale sky hop during the day when no stars are in the sky. Therefore, this movement serves other purposes.
