The reading asserts that different industries recently try to provide more habitat for fish by building more artificial reefs. The lecturer, however, finds the idea dubious and casts doubt on the reasons proposed by the reading passage.
First, the writer argues that the more places devoted to reproducing artificial reefs, the more fish from different species would be in that habitat. For instance, the number of red snappers in the Gulf of Mexico increased after creating these types of reefs. Conversely, the professor brings up the idea that the artificial reefs would attract more fish to live there and they might be greater in number for fishers to catch them at first, but it is high chance that this would lead to a decrease caused by overfishing them.
the reading holds the idea that making artificial reefs could improve the economic situation for small-scale fishers. these fishers could build their own reefs and have their special fishing spot. In contrast, the lecturer underlines that It is a bad idea in order to ot could lead to some safety problems such as the fish nest caught on reefs.
the reading states that it is also good for the environment because these reefs could be made out of recycled material. On the contrary, the lecturer dismisses this issue due to the fact that it would cause some environmental damage. for example, a reef made of tires could be crashed by storm and harm marines or other sea species.
