The lecture and the reading both discuss the migration of edmontosaur to the North Slope. While the reading states that edmantasure migrate to North slope to avoid the harsh winter condition, and enumerates three hypothesis to illustrate that migration, the lecture refutes this, saying that the three hypothesis are not convincing and the edmantasure did not migrate.
First of all, the reading claims that the endamasours diet support the idea of migration. The North Slope only is a temperate zone and the endamasours only feed on plants. However, the lecture argues that 100 million years ago the summer temperature in the North was very hot. There were a lot of vegetations. When the vegetation die in the winter season, a lot of notorious dead vegetation is left behind. The endamasours can easily feed on this dead vegetation in the winter.
In addition, the reading makes an argument that the endamasours were moved in herds. It is another prove that the endmontosaurs migrate to the North during the winter. Moving in herds helps animals to coordinate their migration. The lecture counters this point by saying that not all the animals that living in herds are migrating. According to the professor, there are other reasons for extra protection. For example, the Roosevelt elk are living in herd but they are not migrating.
Lastly, the reading passage argues that the endeavourer were capable of migration long distance. They can run so fast by using their locomotive power to move to warmer climate. The lecture refutes this claim by pointing out that the juveniles endamassours are not able to run quickly as the adult. During the migration the juveniles would slow down the herd. The herd would not leave the juvenile behind and migrate, they have to stay with them and survive the harsh winter.
