TPO12 Integrated Writing

The reading and the lecture are both about the "portrait of a teenage girl." The author of the reading passage feels that painting must be of Jane Austen. He supports his argument by giving three possible reasons. The lecturer casts doubt on the claims made by the author. He thinks that, in fact, the reasons given by the author are not convincing.
First of all, the author argues that the painting was of Jane Austen, because her familly gave permission to use her portrait in her letters. This specific point is challenged buy the lecturer. He says that her family were not able to recognize her accurately, because they were died about 70 years before the painting was made.
Secondly, the author contends that the painting must be of Jane Austen, because the face of the painting resemble with the sketch of the Cassandra. Since, Cassandra made several sketch of the Jane Austen, so it must be her portrait. This point is rebutted by the lecturer. He points out that the family of Jane Austen was large and there were many teenagers at the same time, so painting must be of other relatives of Jane Austen.
Finally, the author posits that the painting must be of Jane Austen, because there was evidence that shows, the painting was created by the Ozis Humphrey. Austen Family were wealthy, so that they hire Ozis Humphrey to sketch painting of Jane Austen, because of his distinctive style. In contrast, the speaker's opinion is that the material used in the painting was started to sell in Europe only after when Jane Austen was 27 years old. Hence, the painting must be of other people rather than Jane Austen.
