The reading states that, the genetically modified trees promises to bring a number of benefits, and it provides three supporting reasons. Conversely the professor says that, sure there are benefits from such trees however, they are not as a great as they mentioned in the reading, and he adds that , there are serious problems with the article, and he refutes each claim in the reading.
First, the reading claims that, genetically modified trees are designed to be hardier than nature trees. In other word, they are more likely to survive than their unmodified trees. But, the professor opposes this point by saying that, resistant is not ensure their survival. For example, if there are in bad conditions like poor climate , some trees of limited species which are resistant and few of them will survive, and he adds that, genetically modified trees are much more uniform than native trees. In addition, they all will die if the climate changed.
Second, the reading argues that, genetically modified trees promise to bring number of economic benefits to those who grow them. But, the professor refutes this point by saying that, there is a hider cost beyond genetically modified trees. Companies collect money from farmers who are planting such trees. And he adds that, by the law , farmers should pay companies when they collect seeds and fruits.
Third, the reading avers that, the use of genetically modified trees can prevent over exploitation of wild trees. However, the professor contends that, genetically modified trees might damage to the local trees. They grow aggressively. And he says that, they compete with the native trees for natural resources . They crowding out the native trees for water.
