The reading specifies that submarines who patrolling in some are hear strange sounds and provide three theories about what might have caused the odd sounds. However, the professor say that author's theories have certain problem and introduce three reasons and refute them all.
First of all, the reading assert that the strange sounds is produce by male and female orca. In fact, the orca live in that area and use this sound to attract male. Nevertheless, the speaker opposes this idea reasoning that orca do not live in the deep area where the submarine patroll and it is not possible for submarines to hear this sounds in deep area. Also, the Russian sonar can detect the sound of orca.
Second, based on the reading, giant squids are responsible for quack noises and the reason the sonar cannot detect them is because they have soft bodies with no skeleton. In addition, giant squids are intelligent animal and it is plausible they approaches to the submarines out of curiosity. In contrast, the professor states that the strange noises disappear after a time and giant squids still living in that area and it is not rational for submarine to think this sounds suddenly stops. Therefore, giant squids are not making this sounds.
Third, according to the reading, foreign submarine from other countries patrolling the area and unintentionally they emit sounds. Conversely, the lecturer contradicts this point by saying that the strange sounds move around and change direction in a fast way and other submarines cannot make this sound since they do not have technology to change their direction fast and make a silence engine.
Therefore, the specific points mentioned in the reading do not make sense.
