The author of the reading passage holds that there are several methods that can prevent frogs from extinction, while the lecturer in the lecture expresses an opposite view.

To begin with, farmers should be prohibited from using pesticides because they damage a frog's nervous system. However, the lecturer refutes that this restriction is neither economical nor practical. Pesticides are widely adopted by farmers as an effective method to protect crops such as corn and sugarcane from attacking by insects; otherwise it would lead to lower yield. Thus, if farmers in the areas that are close to endangered frogs strictly follow such restrictions, they are likely to suffer crop loss and therefore be less competitive in the agriculture market.

Moreover, the author believes that killing the fungus that have deadly effect can save the frogs, which the lecturer considers to be impractical. First of all, the ways to treat fungus infection, including antifungal medication, needs to be applied to each individual frog, which hinders them to be used in large scale. Besides, such treatments cannot prevent frogs from passing the fungus to their offspring. As a result, scientists have to conduct them again and again to every frog generation, which is extreme complicated and expensive.

Finally, the author puts forward that people should reduce water use to protect frog's water habitats. Instead, the lecturer points out that it is not human activities that mainly threatening their natural habitats. Actually, in the past few decades, global warming has been the key factor of draining of wetlands, lakes and marshes where most frog species lay their egg in, causing those frogs going to extinct. Therefore, limiting water use is unlikely to stop the continuing habitats deterioration caused by global warming.
