In the passage, the author states that sending humans to Mars would face some challenges and brings out three possible problems that astronauts would face if they wanted to travel Mars. However, the professor contends that the problems are not challenging and refutes each of them.

.

To begin with, the article holds the view that round-trip to Mars would last for two years. Space vehicles can carry limited amount of food, water and oxygen, so Mars mission is impossible. The professor, on the other hand, believes that by using hydropanic technic, astronauts can grow plants in water instead of soil. Consequently, they will be able to cultivate food in space. Moreover, these plants can recycle waste water to clean drinking water, and also plants can absorb carbon dyoxide and release oxygen.

Additionally, the writer mentions that astronauts on Mars mission would spend many monthes in zero-gravity, which can cause seriouse damages on human body, such as decreased muscle mass and lower bone density. Nevertheless, the professor points out that many astronauts that were sent to sattelites, orbiting the earth, had stayed there for monthes without any problem. In fact by regular exercising they can reduce the effect on their muscles, and by supplying vitamines and minerals they can slow down the bone density reduction process.

Finally, the author suggests that astronauts on a mission to Mars would be exposed to harmfull levels of space radiation. Constructing a shield would be impossible, due the extra weight added to the ship. On the contrary, the professor claims that these radiations are not in a dangerous level and they happen occasionally when the Sun is particulary active. They can monitor the Sun radiations and construct a small shield area in spacecraft. As a result, only when the Sun radiations are increased they could stay in that shield until the danger is passed.
