The reading an the lecture are both about Chevalier de Seingalt, which is about the accuracy of the his memoir. The author of the reading believes that he distorted or invented events in the memoir, but the lecture casts doubt on the claims made in the article. She thinks that there are reliable historical records and accurate document over this memoir.
First of all, the author claims that he was not very wealthy because he borrow many money from one merchant in Swiss. This point is challenged by the lecture. She says that if he get loan from a merchant, he surely need cash money. because he has many assets that he needs to convert them to cash.
Secondly, the authors states that Chevalier' record about converstion with famous writer is not accurate. He believes it was written many years after the conversation and it is impossible to remmeber anything in these converstions. This argument is rebutted by the lecture. She says he visit by famous write every night. Furthermore, she points out during living many years in valley he wrote down anything in their converstion, so it is not strange that he wrote anything.
Finally, the author mentions that escaping from prison by using metal to make hole is not true and it is only for enjoyable reading. The lecture, on the other hand, feels that there is best evidence for proving this. She puts forth the idea that reparing celling after this event is the best document for it and also other prisons have good rrelationship with him.
