using vessels as electric batteries in ancient times

Essay topics:

using vessels as electric batteries in ancient times

The reading and the lecture both discuss evidence which is related to using vessels as electric batteries in ancient times. The author of the reading believes that there are no proofs which support this claim. However, the lecturer casts doubt on the claims made by the author. She thinks that documents which are presented in the reading are not convincing.

First of all, the author points out that the vessel does not use for batteries. It is mentioned that there is no attachment between these materials and electric conductors. This point is challenged by the lecturer. She says that vessels were discovered by local people near the jars. These people were not trained like an archeologist, and they would not able to recognize these materials exactly, so we will not know surely about the wires and conductors.

Secondly, the author contends that archeologists found some copper cylinders belong to Seleucia which they were used for holding scroll texts. The article notes that these materials were similar to jars which are discovered at Iraq in ancient times, so these materials had analogous employments. The lecturer rebuts this argument. She suggests that it is true that there is a resemblance between these cylinders, but were not reported any proofs for using vessels for scroll and there is just a possible. She elaborates on this by mentioning that vessels may first be designed to scroll; then, people knew that by adding iron red and liquid they could produce electricity. In other words, vessels originally were used for one goal then they adopt to employ for another purpose.

Finally, the author states that those people did not have any devices which relied on electric batteries. The article establishes that these vessels were useless for them. The lecturer, on the other hand, posits that batteries could make mild shock, and it was very well as a visible power. She puts forth the idea that people could apply this power for healing and other medical purposes. In fact, in modern medicine, mild shocks are utilized for stimulating muscles and mitigating some pains, so ancient people could have these purposes.
