In this set of material, the reading part discusses the several possible causes of the Little Ice Age, and the listening section refutes the information presented in the article and argues that these evidence are out of date and non of them give account of Little Ice Age.

First the passage posits that by melting the glaciers cold water goes to the gulfs and disrupts the Gulf Stream and this disruption can causes the Little Ice Age. However, the talk makes the point that this can only explain this phenomenon in the Europe and the North America, what about Southern hemisphere? It cannot explain the Little Ice Age in the Australia.

Second, the text asserts that volcanic activities send dust and sulfur gas into air and these dark clouds block some sunlight and decrease the temperature in the Earth's surface. On the contrary, the speaker believes that if something likes this happens, the snow looks gray or a dramatic colorful sunset, but there is no report about this and also these eruptions were not enough strong to block the sunlight.

Third, according to the article, decrease in the human population makes it possible for trees to be grown in the agriculture lands and trees can absorb the greenhouse gases which they can keep the Earth warm. The professor disagrees with this point, and postulates that the population grow back very quickly and they cut down trees to make lands proper for cultivation, therefore there is not enough time for trees to absorb all greenhouse gasses.
