The world being a global village
Culture refers to the common way of life of a particular group of people depending on their topographical location. With the introduction of technology in the numerous aspects of life be it education, health, fashion, agriculture , communication, the world is now getting smaller not in terms of size but in reference to no more barriers in terms of accessibility. This explains the saying that the world of today is more or less a global village. The use of village in this context is used to depict small community in the early 1990's that had a group of people who were easily identified with their mode of life; the way they dress, walk, talk and customs being similar.
In the past where there were not efficient means of travelling, people barely moved across the globe thus every country had its own culture in terms of clothing, languages, food etc. The introduction of better planes which enables anyone to travel from one part of the world to another has greatly influenced culture as a whole. For example in every big city the original culture of that country is being transformed into some sort of single -international culture .Take for instance New York in the United States as at now has a population of about nine million people of whom not more than 50% are actual American natives. Its a mixture of people from Asia, Europe ,Africa and other continents all coming from areas of different cultures and now trying to merge to form one international culture. Service facilities like restaurants, bars which use to serve food and drinks of american culture are now adding international menus . Restaurant brand names such as Mc Donald's , K.F.C , Starbucks are now internationally known names when it comes to food services.
Regardless of which language your mother tongue is. The most common second language adopted is English, then it comes to French or Spanish. Communication services are now more efficient because of technology. Businesses in United Kingdom can have clients in France. It is also very common for business partners of a firm to come from different parts of the world and link up for conferences remotely using services such as skype, webbex and other means. Networking and connectivity has no boundaries therefore it is now not a recommendation but a necessity to learn a common tongue or language. For example Many countries have added one or more languages to their educational curriculum so students would develop new language skills in addition to their local languages , to be able to communicate on the global level.
Fashion now trends globally, common style of dresses runs through most parts of the world. This is because fashion Companies are now able to advertise on a global scale with the help of social media via the internet. The release of iphone 7 in the U.S.A does not mean it would only be bought in U.S.A . They have branches all over the world that would equally sell .The transition from the 3 button suits to the 2 button suit and gradually to 1 is being noticed internationally. The wearing of suit is something that originated from the western culture, but as of today is a common type of formal wear by people from all corners of the earth. The change of currency to Euro in Europe (except the U.K) and dollar in U.S.A , Canada and Australia says it all. Affluent shops in other countries accept the dollar or even charge their commodities in foreign currency such as the dollar
The world is gradually evolving into one big culture. All the separate cultures are now synchronizing into one big culture and this is because of technology which has helped to improve accessibility, network, communication, transforming the previous huge world of 7 distinct continents into a global village.
