A company has announced that it wishes to build a large factory near your community. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this new influence on your community. Do you support or oppose the factory? Explain your position.
I firmly oppose the building of a large factory near my community. Although it may improve the economy, it is not advisable to welcome a factory in a residential area. I live in a congested community filled with large buildings and small houses. The natural environment around my house is also a habitat for many creatures. I believe the factory may have a considerable effect upon these creatures and the residents of my locality.
First of all, I live in an older urban area, which has poor architectural and street planning. The roads beside our community are some of the busiest in my city. So the vehicles on the road create a lot of pollution, which causes many types of health issues. Hence, smoke from the factory's chimney can make this situation worse for the residents in the area. Moreover, although it is not very uncomfortable to reside in my community certain emergency situations may become more complicated with the additional construction. For instance, since the buildings are already situated closely, fire trucks and emergency vehicles can not access the streets. Presently, the open space around the community is a great help for rescue and evacuation, which would be blocked due to the factory.
Secondly, for a long time, people of my community have been successfully preserving the natural stream and trees around our locality. This is a natural habitat for many small creatures. The disposal of the factory's waste products will surely hamper their dwellings. The current condition of the environment is already critical all over the world. Therefore, it is not wise to replace nature with a factory.
Last but not least, children of urban areas like my community, do not have a large area to play, unless they go to a park. The small open space filled with trees and a stream is a regular recreation place for the people of my community.
To conclude, I would say the long preserved nature by a community can not be replaced at the cost of a factory. In addition, enormous health issues will be problematic for the community, which compels me to oppose the building of a factory.
