TOEFL essay: Are parents best teachers?
Each parent loves his child and wants his child to be grown healthy, wealthy and well educated. Each child also loves its parents and has the most interaction and obedience -a least at its first years of life- from its parents. But are one’s parents the best teachers a person could have? What are the things an individual need to learn through his/her life? Who can teach one the requirements for a better life and what are his specifications? In my view the best teacher can be one who knows more than others an individual’s environment, culture and future needs.
At first, the environment which a baby is born in and grown up in is the major factor that affects its requirements to survive and rise. The baby understands and gets familiar with its environment’s supplies, hazards and climate not only through self-learning but through the acts and responses its nearest persons do. This will be mainly people who will have the most interaction with him. And for sure one’s parents are the most he interacts with.
Second, a person’s culture is an issue that helps a person to live easier in a place. Learning this culture from its surrounding people is the initial way to be taught. But again since one’s parents have been in the middle of such a culture for a long time they already know everything about it and can be the best teachers in introducing the culture to a person.
The last but not the least, a person’s future needs, plays a role in his requirements which he must learn. This can be taught by both parents and other individuals. But parents are not always the best in this case. Because it mainly depends on how much a person is educated and thinks organized. And in this case special school teachers have a higher quality in teaching these facts.
Having everything said and done, parents are the best teacher to teach about one’s surrounding environment and culture. But when it reaches to special cases that need a professional, school teachers are better. So although parents are great teachers for many issues, they are not always the best.
