The reading passage supports group approach in any organization. However, the listening passage disagrees with this approach.
The professor in the listening passage talks about a study of a company who started a new project and the responsibility of finishing the work was assigned to the teams. After six months when the company assessed the team’s work, none of the teams were successful. In fact, those members in the group who performed well were not recognized individually rather than the whole team was given recognition. Their attitude was totally opposite what the reading predicts.
The professor further says that the same project didn’t move very quickly because it took so long to reach the consensus and in many instances where one or two members in the team managed to become influential over what their group did and sometimes if these influential people gave any ideas either their ideas were ignored or dropped but never heard.
Lastly, the professor states that the project was failed because when the couple of influential people gave their creative ideas to the group or said that this project is moving in the wrong direction but still their ideas were ignored by the other group members and finally all the members of the group were responsible for the failure.
