I think the first one, writing research paper, is the most beneficial for students. If you are going to write a research paper, the first step is to go to the library to find useful materials. Or you may go to the Internet. So you practice you search skills from doing this. After finding all the relevant materials, you need to do a lot of reading and need to group them in a formal way. So you learn how to read and write a formal paper. This may help you develop good habits of doing research and put you in a favorable condition when applying for colleges.
