Some people believe that studying at university or college is the best route to a successful career, while others believe that it is better to get a job straight after school. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
It is often argued that pursuing higher education is the key to acquiring a successful career while others disagree and think that joining the workforce after graduation is more valuable. This essay is an attempt to shed light on both contrastive perspectives and present the writer's opinion.
There are several reasons why some people believe that getting a job immediately after school can be more practical and financially rewarding. The first reason for this belief is individuals, who start a job earlier, can gain valuable work experience and develop hands-on skills that are directly related to their work. In addition, formal education is one of many options for learning nowadays because people can enroll in short practical courses that teach high-demand skills that can help boost employability for school leavers with full-time jobs.
Another perspective is that getting a job right after graduation can be a wise decision for individuals who want to avoid the burden of tuition fees and prioritize financial independence. This is because attending university is a huge investment that costs a lot of money and time while acquiring a degree does not guarantee students to have a well-paying job in the future.
On the other hand, I am among the advocates of the idea that obtaining a university or college degree is a crucial step toward career success. The first prominent justification is that higher education, with high-quality instruction, a constructive and open-minded environment, as well as a diverse range of educational activities, can offer ample opportunity for students to master specialized knowledge in a relevant discipline and sophisticated social skills. These qualifications will appeal to employers who seek high-quality candidates. For instance, an older sibling of mine is a prime example: thanks to obtaining a degree from a prestigious university and social competencies, she is hired by a global corporation with a high salary.
Another reason is that pursuing tertiary education can be a rewarding experience that helps students boost their cognitive development and career-relevant social network. Participating in various kinds of educational activities in university can nurture and help students develop many crucial skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and conflict management skills. Moreover, students can also have a wide range of career-relevant social connections that can give them a competitive edge in the job market.
In conclusion, while getting a job immediately after school can be beneficial to have practical experience and financial independence, university education provides significant values in terms of knowledge skill development, and long-term earning potential that lead to a successful career.
