[Education]
Some people believe everyone has the right to get university education. Therefore, the government should make university education free to everyone no matter their financial background.
To what extent you agree or disagree?
With university financial aid reform in many countries around the world, whether or not university should be free of charge for students from all financial background has become a widely debated topic. While many believe that tertiary educational institutions should be free to everyone, others maintain that students should pay for the courses in college. Given that education is a basic right to everyone and free education will benefit the society at large, I strongly agree that regardless to their financial background, everyone should have equal opportunity to be educated.
In terms of equality of opportunity, education is a basic right and not a privilege. For instance, in some cosmopolitan cities like Hong Kong, schooling is offered for free for 12 years. Since education trains people how to think and be productive in society, it is very important. In the process of being educated, we can learn from the achievements of the scientists, philosophers and socialists. Therefore, education should be made free for everyone to make society a better place.
Regarding skills learnt, math and science subjects taught in university train students' analytical and problem-solving skills, preparing students to become doctors, psychologists and architects. As an example, people in these professions help solve real-world problems such as cancer, AIDS and diabetes. Solving these problems would help people become healthier and live longer. If tertiary education institutions are free to everyone, more students could benefit from the skills they learnt to make the world a better place.
Having discussed that education is universal and how the society can be benefited from free education, I firmly believe that the authority should make college free to everyone. As an old adage which goes, “Education is by the best to invest.” If money are injected into the financial bloodstream of university education, I am confident that the society would benefit from it at large in the long run.
