Average age at marriage in England and Wales
The line graph shows the average age of people in UK and Wales married, over a 40 year period, from 1961 to 2000.
In general, the trend showed the average age of married both females and males was upwards from 1961 to 2000.
In 1971, the average age of males stood a little bit above 25 years old. A next decade, it fell slightly below 25 years old. It was the highest decrease for all period. From 1971 to 1991, it raised sharply from below 25 years old to over 30 years old. In the end of the period, it climbed again to above 40 years old. In the other hand, the average ages of females married stood at below 25 years old in 1971. In 1971, it fell down minimally; however, it recovered in 1981. In the next two decades, from 1981 to 2000, it raised climbed even higher from below 25 years old to above 25 years old.
Interestingly there was similar degree of change between males and females in years of age to married. In the second period, both of it decreased and went up again in the next decades. The rise trend continued until the ends of the period.
Overall, it can be conclude that the average age of married in UK and Wales showed increased from 1961 to 1971. The trend illustrates that the females married in younger age than these males, over the all period.
