There diagrams illustrate the life cycle of salmon. As you may see, there are three stages of life cycle in different area of water; upper river, lower river, and open sea.
I would like to start off with the slow moving river, the eggs are attached to the small stones which is located under the reeds. This stage is estimated long for 3-6 months before turning into fry.
The second stage is located in lower part of the river with fast flowing, and the fry (3-5 cm) is living in this area approximately about 4 years. After this period, the fish turned into smolt with 12-15 cm and entering the last stage of the cycle. In this phase, salmon is populating the open sea for around 3 years before became an adult salmon, which is measured as 70-76 cm long. To continue their descent, they need to do reproduction through laying an egg.
To sum up, it is clear that the process of the reproduction and development into adult salmon is a repeated cycle.
