The reading and lecture are both about the vessels. Whereas the author of reading states that the ancient people cannot use the vessel as electric batteries, the lecture suggest that the vessels used the electric batteries. The lecture casts doubt on the reading by proving three reasons.
First of all, according to the reading, the vessels lack the equipment used for electric purpose such as wires and other material as evidence. However, the lecture disputes this point as the absence of wire does not clear out the fact that vessels does not use as electric batteries. For example, the vessels were first discovered by the local people not by archaeologist. Also, he consorts his claim with the supposition that the local people might have found the wire or other material but as being unknown about the importance of those materials they tend to ignore that material or even throw them away.
Secondly, the author of reading demonstrate that the copper cylinder in jars are alike those of the cylinder of Seleucia. He also adds the prediction that the seleucia cylinder was not used for electricity so he thought that the copper cylinder also cannot be used as electricity. Nevertheless, the lecture refutes this argument. He argues that it might be possible that the cylinder was originally designed by Seleucia but in attaching with iron rod or in some liquid it might helps in producing electricity. He further adds that one purpose give rise to another so this cylinder give rise to producing electricity.
Finally, the reading claims that the ancient people had no device to rely on the electricity as the electricity has no use in those eras. On the other hand, the lecture believe that there might be use of electricity in tingling sensation as an evidence of magical power. He thinks that the electricity might have used in healing method as now in present days the mild electricity used for therapy of muscle. Moreover, he feels that people might have used electricity as magic trick.
In conclusion, the lecture states that the information given by the reading is not convincing as it does not hold the true evidence to proof their statement.
