Essay topics:

A city wants to help teachers of its high school students (age14-18) improve their teaching. It is considering two plans: 1. Choose a small group of excellent teachers; these teachers will attend a class led by an expert for additional training in how to teach effectively, and they will then come back to their schools and provide that training for other teachers in school. 2. Provide additional training in teaching effectively for high school teachers, using online material that each teacher will study individually.

To provide high quality education to the students, I think it would be better to train a small group of teachers first, who will lately offer assistance and provide training for other teachers.

To begin with, the process by which the experienced teachers provide lessons to those who have not take part in the training is a kind of communication that contributes to the spread and exchange of their ideas. Those advanced teachers, who were trainers, know quite well about how they managed to improve their skills, and, thus, are experts in teaching newcomers by foreseeing the difficulties they will meet and underscoring the key point in enhancing the efficiency of having class. For instance, educators may not only focus on teaching the related academic knowledge in their major, but are also responsible for enhancing the comprehensive skills of the students such as independent thinking and time management skills, which will definitely contribute to the overall efficiency of study, and further to their future career and life. Through interaction, the teachers may share their ideas about how to cultivate those essential abilities of the students and gain a detailed and comprehensive insight of the teaching method. Therefore, the inexperienced teachers will benefit a lot form the training process.

In addition, the offline training method will contribute to the progress of the excellent educators themselves by providing opportunities to get feedback from other teachers. Actually, it is inevitable for a person to make a mistake even though they are expert in their region, and mistake correction is one of the most useful way to better improve oneself, through which they learn lessons from their past faults and are likely to bear them in mind for an extended period of time. Taking myself for example, until now, I even clearly remember the scene that I stood in front of the blackboard, analyzing a mathematical problem, during which, however, I mistakenly calculated two plus three was six when I was in my junior high school. Trivial as it was, it was this embarrassing moment that rendered me more careful when dealing with minor problems and later contributes to my meticulous characteristic. In a nutshell, the training process, as a examination of the trainers, largely enhances the quality of learning of the advanced teachers themselves.

Someone may maintain that, in this Information age, the teachers may get easy access to the online materials and tremendous amount of information ever-updated via the Internet within a click. Convenient as the computers and the Internet are, it is essential not to overstate the comparative values and neglect the negative impacts of them, by which I mean, they are likely to provide a variety of distractions which may results in a low efficiency in training. Our everyday life is replete with evidence that smart devices distract us from what we intended to do. Imagine when you turn on your computer, a website from your favorite game pop up saying that a bonus is waiting for you to collect and will be due soon. And it is entirely possible for you to click into it and totally forget about time and the task allocated from your supervisor. From this perspective, high-techs are harmful, rather than conductive, to the efficiency and productivity.

To conclude, the offline training method makes great contributions to both the trainers and the other teachers in the school as a whole.
