According to the lecturer, there are three theories about Easter Island that there is not life. The first theory is that people cut the palm forests and replace them with grassland, also they use this land for agriculture to produce food. Therefore they use trees for heating and cooking, construction material, making paper etc. According to the text on that place are constructed hundreds of large stone monuments who are called Ahu. In spite of that trees can regenerate quickly they continue to cut the trees which later caused serious environmental problems.
The second theory is that the island was attacked by the rats who eat the plants and poisoned the plants. According to the text, plants were enabled to regrowth because they were eaten by the rats before they come enough big to be a harvest. And with no food and no wood to build a boats people cannot to escape and died there.
The third theory is about the war between short-eared and long-eared people. According to the text, short-eared people drove the long-eared people to the ditch where they burned and killed them.
