The two provided charts give data on the career trajectory, excluding full-time employment, of the UK graduate and postgraduate students in 2008.
Overall, further studies were the most preferable choice for both graduates, and postgraduates in the UK. Furthermore, the ranking of the remaining post-study destinations was the same for both categories of students.
The closer look at the first chart shows that in 2008 close to 30,000 graduates continued with their education. Well over 17,000 students opted for part-time employment, while little more than 16,000 of their colleagues ended up without any job whatsoever. The least popular choice was volunteering, with just 3,500 students who decided to do this after receiving their Bachelor’s degrees.
From the second chart, it is noticeable that the further studies were the most popular among postgraduates, with over 2,700 students. However, part-time work was also very appealing to postgraduates, and more than 2,500 students trod this path. Over 1,600 students with Master’s or other postgraduate qualifications were unemployed in 2008, and 345 took voluntary positions.
