The graph illustrates the proportion of males and females in various age groups who regularly engaged in physical exercise in Australia in 2010.
Under the age of 45, the gender difference between these men and women was big in 2010. Most strikingly, 52.5% of women between 35 and 44 years old did regular physical activity while only 39.5% of their male counterparts did so. Also, between 25 and 34 years old, a higher proportion of women than men regularly engaged in physical exercise (48.9% and 42.2% respectively). In contrast, with regard to people between 15 and 24 years old, a higher percentage of males regularly exercised than that of females (52.8% and 47.4% respectively).
After reaching the age of 45, higher proportions of women than men engaged in regular physical activity. There was a gap of over 10% between males and females aged from 45 to 54 (43.1% and 53.3% respectively). This gap was less prominent for 55-to-64-year-olds (45.1% for men and 53% for women). The gender difference was minimal when it came to people aged 65 and over (around 47% for both men and women).
In sum, the older the men were, the lower the number of men who exercised regularly before 45, but after 45, an increasing proportion of them involved in such activities.
