Claim: The emergence of the online "blogosphere" has significantly weakened the quality of political discourse in the United States.
Reason: When anyone can publish political opinions easily, standards for covering news and political topics will inevitably decline.
Write a response in which you agree or disagree with the claim and the reason on which that claim is based.
The emergence of the online "blogosphere", if anything, has only enhanced the quality of political discourse in the United States.Democracy is something that is "by the people", "for the people" and "of the people". In a democratic country such as the United States, people are entitled to freedom of speech and anyone can express his/her opinion freely. Therefore, there is no reason why political opinions should not be published by anyone easily.
The reason supporting the claim suggests that the standards of news coverage and political topics will decline when anyone can publish political opinions freely. This claim reflects insularity or parochialism, since it promulgates the idea that political opinions can only be published by a certain group of people, about whom, nothing is mentioned. As the popular saying goes, "Every coin has two sides". Sometimes there are scenarios when an issue can remain unsolved when it is handled by the same person all the time. When the same issue is handed over to a third person or a person who is impartial or indifferent to the issue, a quick solution may be arrived at. This is because a new set of eyes sometimes does the trick. Similarly in a political scenario, when anyone can publish political opinions, it gives a wide scope to the government to understand people's sentiments directly from people themselves.
It so happens that sometimes, newspaper and media companies may be owned by political parties. So, the news published by such companies may most of the times turn out to be in favor of the political party.Such news may indefinitely be apocryphal or untrue.Hence,it always helps to obtain news from a neutral entity and be assured the news is canonical.
A blog is only a mere tool that enables a person to write on any topic pertaining to his interest. If a prosaic tool such as the blog can create an impact on the political atmosphere of a country, it can be said that the emergence of the online "blogosphere" is a welcome change to the United States.
