The line graph displays the number of goods transported by road, water, rail and pipeline in the United Kingdom from 1974 to 2002.
It is clear that the most popular goods transport was by road over the period of 28 years. Also, while the number of goods transported used by road, water and pipeline have all increased, and the quantity transported by rail remained steadily.
In 1974, around 70 million tonnes transport of goods by car, while the water, rail and pipeline were be used about 39 million tonnes, 40 million tonnes and 2 million tonnes respectively. In the year 1995, the quantities of goods transport by car was rose to 98 million tonnes and stood at 41 million tonnes by rail. By contrast, goods transported by water decreased slowly and the pipeline reached the peak at 22 million tonnes. Between 1998 and 2002, transport of goods by car and rail both slightly increased. The amount of goods transported by water was peaked at 62 million tonnes. However, the rail was constant.
To sum up, the largest quantity of goods transported both in 1974 and 2002 was by road, while the lowest between the time period of 1974 and 2002 was by pipeline.
