The diagrams below show how chocolate is made and how the price of a chocolate bar is divided up among those involved in the process.
The figure illustrates the process to make chocolate and compares the contribution factors to the price of a chocolate bar.
It is clear that, chocolate bar and cocoa powders are two final products, which are obtained from chocolate product processing. Moreover, the percentage in the cost of ingredient and overhead is the highest, whereas, the figure for that of farmer is the lowest.
It can be seen from the diagrams that, in the first step, cocoa is grinned via grinder to remove waste to get cocoa liquor. In the second step, cocoa liquor is pressed to get the cocoa butter and cocoa powders. cocoa powder from the second step is used for industry, while cocoa butter is mixed with cocoa liquor, sugars and other ingredients in the final step to create chocolate bar.
It is showed in the bar chart that the price of bar chocolate can be divided into four components, in which the percentages of in the cost of ingredient and overhead is highest at 37%, while farmers obtain only 4% in the proportion of chocolate bar price. Supermarket profit, tax and company income contribute to 34%, 15% and 10% in the percentage of the chocolate bar price, respectively.
