Students today can easily access information online. So libraries are no longer necessary. Do you agree or disagree?

This is the era of technology. In the edge of the internet, all the information is available on the click of the button. Owing to the advent of the internet, the use of libraries are very rare. Very handful of people nowadays use libraries for their reading and research purposes. Some people tend to believe that public libraries are not necessary anymore, while others disagree. In the following essay, I will check both perspectives and provide an opinion in the conclusion.

To begin with, the internet is easily available. It is very convenient to search for any information on it. Any hours of the day people can browse and read any educational material. unlike libraries, there is no opening or closing hours for internet browsing. Owing to the state of the art search engine algorithms, searching is easier on the internet. On the other hand, the search for information in libraries is quite harder than the internet. It is possible that some reading materials could not be found in the library. For instance, the numbers of copies of books are limited, people might have to wait for a while to get the same book. Whereas on the internet everything is virtual, a number of people can use the same e-book at the same time.
Evidently, the maintenance of libraries is costlier and time-consuming.

On the other hand, anyone can post anything on the internet so there is no credibility of the information. Even today there are millions of people, can not afford the internet or do not know how to use it. For them, libraries are the best source of information. Moreover, libraries can provide ambience and environment where people can read peacefully. It has been observed that many students can only focus on the peaceful environment of libraries. Public libraries contain a range of literature in regional languages which are not easily available on the internet.

In conclusion, I believe that public libraries have many advantages over the internet. Though, all the information available on the internet nowadays but it cannot replace libraries. Libraries are an integral part of the social and educational infrastructure.
