The best way to teach is to praise positive actions and ignore negative ones.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position
Haven’t we all experienced that wonderful giddy feeling when we are praised for doing something good? It is an amazing feeling; it means you succeeded at doing something right. However, when we are reprimanded for our wrong doings, we feel as if the world is against us. We feel guilty and ashamed. However, is it okay to only praise positive actions and ignore the negative ones? I believe, that if we ignore negative actions; it equates to us giving the thumb up for the actions.
When giving laud to a person who’ve done something outstanding, we are consciously encouraging them to continue to take such actions. In teaching, positive reenforcement is a great tool to encourage student to strive to do their best. However, ignoring negative actions can have unprecedented consequences. When we don’t speak up to clarify that the negative action is not okay, we are subconsciously saying that it is okay to do again. It is not necessary to always correct someone’s mistake, however; if the doer continues to repeat the offense then it is imperative to address the issue so the doer can become aware of his/her wrong doing.
As kids we are all taught to not do certain things. When we are scolded by our parents for running in the house, we understand that is something we shouldn’t do; it is a negative action. As adult, we have the laws to dictate our actions. When we run a red-light; chances are we will get pulled over and handed a ticket. This action tells us that running a red-light is against the law. If such reprimanding actions were not taken by our parents or law enforcement officers we would be running rampage through the house and the roads; with the mindset it is perfectly normal to run wild.
In conclusion it is imperative that we address negative actions and praise positive ones. There has to be a balance in responding to an action, otherwise we are subconsciously encouraging and discouraging both actions.
