Altruism of human and animals
In contrast to passage, which believes that both human being and animals show altruistic behavior, the lecturer contradicts the opinion. The lecturer believes that all the activities of human and animals, which seems altruistic to us is actually not selflessness acts. There lies some kind of benefits of doing these activities.
The passage explains that we, the social being share our food with our family members or with a people who is unknown to us without any interest. The lecturer refutes that this activities is not actually selfishness.
The second point made in the passage is to do with animal’s altuistic behavior. The passage mentions the name of Meekart to give an example of altruism among animals. According to the text, the sentinel of Meekart stand alone to guard against the predators and to give the signal of upcoming danger. The sentinel does not eat food, while the other members of the groups are engaged in searching for foods and eat the food. The sentinel provides the alert to other memebrs if it see any predator is coming so that other memebrs can go to the safe place and this might leave the life of sentinel in danger. Because it has few time to flee after convey the alarm. However, the speaker points out that the sentinel might eat before standing to guard and it has enough time to escape from danger because it first see the danger so that it has enough time to be in the safe place.
Finally, in contrast to the reading passage’s claim that donating organ to family members, relatives or even to outside people proves the altruism of human being. But the lecturer argues the claim and points out that by donating organ to other people s/he gets the appreciation from the society, which is not less than any monetary benefit.
