wxplain how lecture cast doubt on points made in the reading about Torreya Taxifolia survival.
The reading and the lecture is are both about the Torreya taxifolia tree’s survival. The author of the reading explains that there are three ways to stop the decline of Torreya. However, the lecture shed lights on these claims and refutes each of author’s points.
First of all, the author claims that Torreya could be reestablished by planting seeds in the northern part of Florida where it was once flourished. Microclimate of that area is suitable for its survival. The point cleared by the professor that those areas of Northern Florida are now hotter and drier than before not cooler and wetter anymore. She added that these areas are greatly affected by changes of the climate from larger area either through global warming or through wetland to florida drainage and are no longer suitable for taxifolia. As a result many of these areas are dryer which are not suitable for Torreya’s survival.
Secondly, the author points that there is a better chance of survival of Torreya plants by relocating them farther north to further northern sides where temperatures are cooler. This point made clear by the professor The professor contradicts this by giving an example of relocation of the black locust tree into more north to a new environment. She explained that black locust spreads very quickly and killed pushed out many other plants which were already in danger of extinction. So There may be unpredictable outcomes of relocation of Torrey for the new environment.
Finally, the reading states that Torreya will be survived by preserving them preserved in research centers where scientist can monitor and research on Torreya for its better protection. The professor challenged this point by saying that Torreya trees need a large and genetically diverse criteria a large, genetically diverse population required to resist diseases and these research centers do not have enough capacity to offer this atmosphere grow them. So these trees would not be capable of surviving diseases in the long-term.
In conclusion, the points made by the professor clearly refutes that reading’s claims about the three solutions for the long-term survival of Torreya Trees.
