The passage indicates that dinosaurs were endotherms and gives some ideas approving this idea. However, The lecturer illustrates that some points mentioned in the passage about the dinosaurs being endotherms are not accurate.
First, the reading passage states that some dinosaurs fossils were discovered in the polar regions. For instance, this may be a prove that dinosaurs were endotherms, as only endotherms animals are able to live in such a cold environment. However, the lecturer said that there is no proof that those areas were cold as now. Even if it was cold, the dinosaurs might have migrated or hibernated during the cold seasons.
Second, the reading passage claims that the legs position of dinosaurs is also an example in the direction of the theory of dinosaurs being endotherms. Nevertheless, the lecturer again thinks the legs position of dinosaurs was under the body in order to stand the heavyweight of them, not for running, which is a characteristic of endotherms animals.
Finally, the reading passage includes Haversian canals as another proof, which are a sort of canals have nerves and blood vessels which allow the fast growth of the endotherms animals. However, the lecturer talks about growth rings, which are areas of thickness in the bones of dinosaurs. These rings support the idea that dinosaurs stopped or slowed their growth for a while, which might be during hibernating.
As a result, there is still a debate about whether the dinosaurs are endotherms or not. Each team has his own proofs of his theory and it seems that more research should be done.
