The main reason of sea ottor's population decrement
The reading states two possible hypothesis that affects on sea otters decreament: predators and sea pollution, and states that the pollution theory is the most likely to happen and supports this idea with three reasons.
First, the passage claims that the pollution is the reason of decrement of otters beacuase there have been found large amount of oil pollutants such as oil rigs, whereas the professor states that if the pollution was the main reason there must be sea otter calpses at the sea shores, and this also proves the second reasons laibility since if they were killed by predators they would be eaten by them and no calpses would be found on shores as it is observed.
Second, the reading states that orchas prefer large mamls like other whales and as can be observed other mamals population also have been decreased however it was stated in the lecture that since human hunters are looking for wahles, their population also have been decreased and orchas had to change their diet and predation habits and eat smaller mamals such as sea otters which will cause them to be more rare at oceans.
Third, the passage explain the uneven pattern of decreament of sea otters population, by the uneven pattern of emittion of pollutatnts by the occeanic currents but the proffessor claims that this fact is because of the large scale of orchas that prrevents them to reach shallow and rocky parts of the sea where sea otter's population have not been changed.
