The reading and the lecture are both about Rembrandt's painting. The author in the reading believes that this painting is not painted by Rembrandt himself. The lecturer challanges the statement made by the author. She is of the opinion that it belongs to this Dutch painter.
First of all, the author suggests Rembrandt was known for his attention to the details of his subjects' clothing, but here something is wrong. It is mentioned that the woman is wearing cap of servant but has a luxurious fur collar that no servant could afford. This argument is effectively challanged by the lecturer. She says that painting was recovered hundred years after Rembrant, in order to increase the value of it.
Secondly, the writer contends that shadows are managed awfully here. The article notes that Rembrandt was the master of creating realistic shadows. The lecturer, however, rebuts this by asserting that as it was recovered, this detail also damaged. She elaborates on this by mentioning that originally shadows were painted realisticaly.
Finally, it is stated in the article this painting has been painted on panel made of several pieces of wood glued. The author establishes that Rembrandt has never uses these type of panel glues. The lecturer, on the other hand, posits that this argument has also been added after Dutch painter. She puts forth the idea that origanally this painting belongs to Rembrandt.
