You should write at least 150 words.
The bar graph illustrates the number of incarcerations in the countries of Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Unites States and Canada from 1930 to 1980.
Overall, it can be seen that, despite some fluctuations, over the period as a whole, the proportion remained high in the U.S and Canada. However, for Britain it remained the lowest, while there wasn’t much of a change for the remaining countries.
At the beginning of the time frame, both the U.S and Canada faced the highest number of cases as compared to the rest of the countries. Canada, however, had the most cases of imprisonment, accounting for a total of 120 thousand prisoners. After that, it saw a gradual decline over the upcoming years, hitting a low of just below 100 thousand at the end of the period. In contrast, the rate in the U.S, during 1930, was 20 thousand less than Canada, however, it jumped up the following year and exceeded the figure in that of Canada. Finally, in 1980, a drastic increase in the rate was noticed, ending the period with a little above 140 thousand prisoners, which was the highest for that year.
On the other hand, Britain started the period with the least number of prisoners; nevertheless, it followed a stable and gradually rising trend throughout the years, landing at around 80 thousand people in jail in 1980. The other two countries, despite some ups and downs throughout, did not end up in a much altered state.
