The line graph illustrates the proportion of the early-year recruitment of teachers with regular teaching jobs according to a year of graduation in Ontario over six years, from 2001 to 2007.
Overall, while regular job rates for early-year English-language program graduates fell significantly, French-language rose at the end of the period, although both saw a similar proportion at the beginning.
In 2001, the proportion of French-language teachers was 70 per cent, just at a bit lower rate than English-language teachers, roughly 2 per cent. Over the next two years, the figure slipped but then recovered slightly and peaked at 65 per cent for French-language teachers, while fell markedly for English-language teachers.
Since 2003, it is clear that the percentage of French-language teachers rose gradually and hit a peak at 75 per cent in the last year. In contrast, the figure increased moderately in 2005 but then bottomed out at just below 30 per cent in 2007.
In conclusion, between 2003 and 2007, there was always more recruitment for French-language teacher than for English-language teachers.
