In this set of materials, the reading and the lecture are both discussing dinosaurs that are called Pterosaurs wherein the reading states that Pterosaurs are not able to fly, and it provides three possible reasons for support. However, the professor explains that the arguments presented by the author are weak, and refutes each of the author's points.
First, the author of the reading claims that pterosaurs are cold-blooded, and have a slow metabolism. The professor refutes this point by saying that pterosaurs have hairs or furs like warm-blooded animals. Therefore, they can use their energy for flying instead of warming their bodies.
Secondly, the reading says that pterosaurs are too heavy to fly. However, the professor says that pterosaurs have bones that contain many hollows. Hence, pterosaurs have light bones that help them to fly.
Finally, the reading states that pterosaurs like birds need their legs to launch from the ground, but pterosaurs have weak and small muscles. The professor opposes this point by explaining that pterosaurs use four legs to run and jump, unlike birds that use their two legs to launch from the ground. Considering this argument, pterosaurs cannot fly is contradicted.
In conclusion, the three points that made in the lecture contrast with the reading. The first, second and third points in the lecture demonstrate that pterosaurs cannot capable of to fly are in doubt.
