Alturism
Both the reading passage and the lecture talks about the alturism found in humans as well as the animals. While the reading passage talks about the positive aultrustic behaviour by giving specific example of humans and a mammal called meerkats, the lecture condradicts the passage statements by giving various reasons.
First of all, the passage asserts that humans reveal various altrustic behaviours by giving example of sharing of food with strangers and donation of organs like kidney to someone who need it. According to the text, the one who is performing the act gets little to no reward at all for the alturistic service. But the proffersor disagree on the ground that, when a person donates a kindey, he gets appreciation from the society, increase in self-esteem- which can be good rewards as well.
Secondly, the author of the passage blosters the argument by supporting it with a behavioural experiment's result which is done on a mammal callled meerkat. This mammal shows the alturistic attitude by keeping itself in a situation of danger by making alarming noise which indicates the rest of members who were buzy collecting the food for the team, about the arrival of the preditator. However, the lecture rejects the finding and futher elaborates that the closer study revealed different results which proves that the gurding meerkat has the advantage of escaping first when he sees the predictor. Moreover, the guarding meerkat has various other advantages like he has previlage of eating first then other members of the group, who were looking for the food for the rest of the group.
In sum, though the reading passage and the leacture both talks about the alturistc behaviours. But the lecture have given sufficient details and strong arguments which strongly negates the reading passage's arguments.
