The reading discusses the possible assumptions that scientists come up with regarding the rapid reduction of yellow cedar plants which it mentions three of them accordingly. However, in the lecture professor refuses to accept these points and gave reasons to defend his point of view about yellow cedar plants.
First, the passage mentions that insect parasites can be one of the major reasons for cedar plants death. But, the professor indicates that most of the healthy cedar trees are resistant among insects attacks since they have a kind of killing chemical that can keep the invader creatures away. he believes that generally there is a low chance for this reason to be the main cause of cedars decline.
Second, the article names the brown bears as another possible cause of yellow cedars fast decrease. On the other hand, he insists that in spite of the fact that some damages are done by bears to these cedars, they can not be the main reason for cedar plants reduction, because evidences have revealed that there are also a great amount of death among cedar plants in islands where no brown bears have had habitat there. So, there must be another reason which kills the yellow cedar plants both in main lands and off shore islands across the northwestern region of united states.
Third, the reading talks about climate changes as a reason for cedar plants destruction. However, professor illustrates that climate change can not be a definite cause for cedar plants reduction totally, since there are some controversial results gained about the influence of climate change in cedar plants deterioration. He discusses that lower elevation warm areas caused more plants to die in comparison with high elevation warm sections which was predicted to act more sever toward these cedars and kill more plants.
