This set of materials deal with the subject of Chevalier de seingalt memoir accuracy. The reading presents Chevalier's memoir is not accurate, while the lecturer strongly contradicts of the reading.
First, according to reading, Chevalier was not rich and wealthy as everyone's thoughts because he has borrowed money from a Swiss merchant. However, the lecturer disputes this point. The lecturer says that when he sold his house, he had to wait a couple of days for getting this money. That is the reason he has borrowed the money. In fact, if he didn't have enough money, he wouldn't have been used it for parties.
Secondly, the reading states that memoir was not accurate because he couldn't remember all those conversations which are about his friendship with Voltaire inside of the book. Nevertheless, the lecturer refutes this idea. According to her, he referred his journals and diaries in the past. Furthermore, Voltaire's friendship was significant for him, so he could remember it without a doubt.
Finally, the reading claims that escaping from prison can not be true because he had a lot of politically important connections. They must have bribed him with a jailer deal. On the other hand, the lecturer strongly believes that other prisoners also had a lot of connections who were more strong than his connections, but they couldn't do that instead of him. It is no sense according to the lecturer. Moreover, after he has escaped, prison has repaired the cell because of hole which he did obviously.
