From 1985 to 2000, England saw a huge increase in the distances of car travelling, rising from 3,199 miles per person to 4,806 miles per person. Travelling by taxi also showed a trend towards increase, soared to three folds by 2000. In the contrast, the three other modes of travel---walking, bicycle and local bus declined significantly in the 15 years. In 2000, bicycle is the least common mode for the purpose of travelling, only accounts for less than 1 percent of all the modes.
In sum, in the 15-year period, the overall mode of travel went up gradually. Among them, travelling by car, long distance bus and taxi all jumped whereas walking, bicycle and local car remained the most popular means of travel and a smaller amounts of people choose bicycle and taxi as their travelling mode.
