The bar graph describes how the number of Japanese tourists going abroad changed from 1985 to 1995. The line graph shows the proportion of these tourists that went to Australia over the same period, except for 1995. Overall, both figures rose over the two periods in question.
As it can be seen from the first graph, in 1985 there were around 5 million Japanese tourists travelling abroad. The number steadily increased for the next 5 years, reaching 11m in 1990. Then it fluctuated between this level and 12m before starting a sharply climb toward the 1995 figure of just over 15m.
