The growth of online shopping will one day lead to all shops in towns and cities closing.
Do you agree or disagree?
Increasing online shopping has caused downfall in physical stores. In my opinion, never can a website pull down a shop but rather promote the growth of trade in the country, thereby improve standard of living.
On the one hand, people visiting a shop to buy any product can touch, feel, check the quality. Even though, travel to the shop is overhead there is an excitement to head to the store to get home things we wish. For example consider buying clothes there are hundreds of options with regards to colors, quality of materials, a physical check is better than looks which we fall for. There is always a disappointment when a shipped product does not mark satisfaction. Another example, buy a car after a trial drive.
Moreover, there are few disadvantages with website based shopping where shipping is not guaranteed of damages associated with it, in addition to that misplaced delivery. Furthermore, once the items are misplaced, a customer goes through a lot of procedure even if, the trading ethics is followed. For instance, contacting a customer service is burdensome as it needs a lot of information transferred and refunding takes time along with reordering, which kills the excitement of a product arrival. In addition to this, feedback a seller gets for every purchase, motivates them for their survival.
On the other hand, online shopping encourages entrepreneurs irrespective of their size. Although the initial investment is negligible, profit earned is high. For instance, pre-ordering option for high investing products earn lesser loss compared to a store that has already managed to sell a complete item. However, we need not travel miles to buy from craftsmen who trade from the other part of the globe.
In conclusion, a website can never replace the fondness of the shops. By the end of the day what matters is the customer satisfaction.
