The reading and lecture both discuess the foundation of bee as 200 million years ago. While the reading provides three calims to support the idea that there was not any bee as 200 million years ago, the professor refutes saying, none of these calims are convincing.
Firstly, the article avers that the researchers could not find fossil of bee that might be dated to 200 million years ago. In fact, they would able to find fossil only dated 100 million years old. On the other hand, the professor rejects this notion by saying that this is true that there is no fossil remain it is origin as 200 million old. This is because these fossils preserved by tree sticky materials. However, these trees were very rare. So, the fossil could not be preserved at that time. As a result, the absence of the fossil does not mean that the bee did not exist in that time period. Consequently, if there was risen substance, the fossil could be preserved.
Secondly, the reading mentions that there was not flowering plants at 200 million years, which is very close to the modern bee. Also, the first appearnce of flowering was just 125 years ago. However, the professor argues this point by saying that there is a strong relation between plant flowering and bee, but the early bee did not feed on flowering plants. Besides, the early bees fed on other plants like farns and pine trees. Furthermore, when these flowering plants appeared, bees started to adapt their feeding on them.
Lastly, the article states that the fossilizes structures found in Arizona are matched with the modern bees nest chamvers, but it was missing cover caps. Nevertheless, the professor contradicts this idea by explaining that the old fossil chamber missed the caps, but the chemical evidence states that the modern bees built the chambers which is water proof substances. In addition, the analysis of specific chemical composition of old fossilized chambers conifrmed that these nests contains the same water proof materials.
