the Chevalier de Seingalt's life

First, the reading claims that, it is said the Chevalier de Seingalt spent plenty of money on parties and gambling, but he was not wealthy, because he borrowed money from a merchant. The professor refutes that point by saying that he was not poor and he states that he just took a loan from a merchant, because it took time to convert assets to money.
Secondly, the article posits that the memoir of the conversations which were made between him and Voltaire can not be accurate, as they were written many years after the conversations happened. However, the professor says that he wrote notes in same day, at night. According to the professor, this knowledge was confirmed by a person who knew the Chevalier de Seingalt well.
Third, the reading says that, his prison escape story is also fake and he just bribed the people who were on duty. The professor opposes this point by explaining that after his escape his prison cell had to be repaired. If the escape story is not true, then why they needed to repair?
